As the Enneagram endures through time and culture, I’m drawn back to it with a renewed curiosity, especially in light of Dan Siegel’s upcoming book, which brings fresh neurobiological insights into how our personalities form and evolve. My own journey with the Enneagram began unexpectedly in 2009, when a member at our San Francisco space first introduced me to this ancient system. It wasn’t until 2012, however, that my psychoanalytic supervisor reintroduced me to the Enneagram, igniting a lasting exploration of a framework that feels both universal and deeply personal.
Surprising as it was to hear my supervisor call the Enneagram the most substantive of personality systems, his endorsement only deepened my appreciation. Today, with Siegel’s work connecting neurobiology and self-awareness, I see the Enneagram as a bridge to understanding both the mind and the self—guiding us on a journey of empathy, insight, and transformation. As I reflect on how we each experience and express love in unique ways, I realize that, for me, falling in love with a person, place, or even a concept brings an instinctive urge to share it. This impulse comes from a place deep within and is, perhaps, the reason I feel compelled to share the Enneagram with you now. The richness of this system—its depth and wisdom—draws me back time and again, and it is with love that I offer it here once more. Dr. Sweid
